What To Do With The Rosary I Was Given?

by Anonymous

My boyfriend is Catholic and gave me a rosary to help me with my current problem. He said I should wear it at all times close to my heart so I wore it a little under my shirt for a while. Holding it gave me strength in some way and calmed me down. He told me he blessed it and prayed with in at the church. The problem I’m not Catholic and now confused. I heard that it is disrespectful to wear it as a necklace and since it recently broke my friend told me I was suppose to bury it. I really don't know what I’m suppose to do with this rosary.

You Should Either Bury Or Burn Holy Objects
by: The Rosary Team

A Catholic priest needs to bless a set of rosary beads in order to make it a sacramental. Lay people, people who are not priests, cannot bless items. Perhaps your friend sprinkled holy water on it?

If your rosary breaks, you should either burn it or bury it unless they are easy to fix. The reason you bury or burn a rosary that can't be fixed is because it is an object that represents a holy thing and as such it is much more respectful to dispose of it by burying/burning it rather than having it put in a landfill next to garbage.

You seem to need encouragement. All we can tell you is that God loves you so much that He gave His only Son for you. He came to give you life and give it to you more abundantly.

You should pray with the help of your rosary beads (learn how to pray with them by going here), and not wear them. They are not magic and can only help you if you make an effort to get closer to Jesus through His mother Mary.

Pray the Rosary and also wear your Rosary
by: Anonymous

In the famous book by Saint Louis De Montfort, he does indeed recommend wearing the Rosary that one prays with to ward off evil.

I myself always have a Catholic Priest Bless my Rosary, I then wear them and Pray those particular Rosary every day. Read the book The Secret of the Rosary by Saint Louis the Monfort

His writing was a great influence to the Great Saint Padre Pio and to Blessed John Paul the Great.

Pious Practice Of Wearing A Rosary
by: The Rosary Team

Dear Anonymous,
Thank you for the excellent example you have given on the appropriate use of a rosary worn on ones person. Your example is very important as it seems so many are confused as to why a rosary is worn. It is worn in an abusive and sacrilegious way more often than for pious reasons. So I deeply thank you for your post.

Fourth Rosary Promise
The rosary will make virtue and good works flourish, and will obtain for souls the most abundant divine mercies. It will draw the hearts of men from the love of the world and its vanities, and will lift them to the desire of eternal things. Oh, that souls would sanctify themselves by this means.
