Rosary Intentions

by Kevin
(Louisiana)

I am new to the Rosary and was told that you should always offer intentions when praying it. I was also told that there are some required intentions, such as for the Pope and for the conversion of sinners, and personal ones. What are the required intentions? Where in the Rosary formula do you say the intentions? In the beginning? before each decade? Is there a limit on the number of intentions per Rosary? Could you give me an example of how you would exactly word a personal intention such as help my sister find a new job.

Thank You.

When And How To Offer Rosary Intentions
by: The Rosary Team

Dear Kevin,

You do not have to pray for certain intentions each time you pray the Rosary and there are no required intentions attached to the Rosary whatsoever. If you would like to pray for personal intentions, you can. Or you can pray that the Blessed Mother will do with the graces earned as she pleases (say: "I offer this Rosary for Our Lady's intentions").

The Rosary is a private devotion and no specific formula specifies when to say the intentions. It is common practice however to offer your intentions after the introductory prayers and before the first mystery is announced. Say something like this, "I offer this Rosary for the intention that my sister finds a new job." If you have several intentions, list as many as you want at this time. There is no limit to the amount of intentions you offer your Rosary for and remember you don't even need to mention intentions.

During Family Rosary, often the leader will ask each member what they want to offer their Rosary for then taking turns each person lists their personal intentions. During a public Rosary before or after Mass, the leader either mentions a couple of general intentions or none are announced and each person can privately offer their own.

Thank you for the question and keep praying the Rosary with faith and devotion.

How to pray the rosary
by: Sylvia

I am new to praying the rosary. I have a friend that prays the rosary every day and says his intentions instead of the mysteries. And I have other friends that pray the mysteries. I'm confused on which is right.

Fourth Rosary Promise
The rosary will make virtue and good works flourish, and will obtain for souls the most abundant divine mercies. It will draw the hearts of men from the love of the world and its vanities, and will lift them to the desire of eternal things. Oh, that souls would sanctify themselves by this means.
