Only The Decades?

by Busy Lady

Hi,

I'm a very busy lady whose aim is to pray the Rosary everyday. However, time is not on my side and so from praying with the usual introductory and concluding prayers, I just disregard them and instantly pray the first decade of the Rosary. Is this way acceptable? I mean, I'm also a Confraternity member of the Holy Rosary and so maybe I have to deal with the modern way of saying it...or is this just optional...I mean, I still pray it daily, just not in the manner of how it is modernly said. Please help me on this and I appreciate responses very very much. Thank you.

Brief Introductory And Concluding Rosary Prayers
by: The Rosary Team

Dear Busy Lady,

That is wonderful you try to pray the Rosary everyday.

When praying the Rosary, begin with the Sign of the Cross, the Apostles Creed, one Our Father, three Hail Marys, then announce the first mystery and continue on as usual. End the Rosary with the Hail Holy Queen and the Sign of the Cross. That is the method to praying a complete Rosary. We're not sure what a "modern" Rosary is but this is the customary way to pray the Rosary.

If you pray this way you will be saying six extra prayers. Time should permit this. I just timed myself saying these prayers along with the Sign of the Cross before and after and it took me exactly a minute and a half. Surely you can spare 1 minute and 30 seconds to say these introductory and concluding prayers.

Also consider praying the introductory prayers and the first two decades in the morning and the final three decades and the Hail Holy Queen in the evening. You can break up your Rosary in this way if you don't have time to pray it all at once.

Thank you for the question and keep persevering.

Open Ended Rosaries
by: Anonymous

Here's how I do it. I say the beginning prayers and a Rosary in the morning but I don't say the ending prayers, that way I can say as many mysteries I want during the day. Sometime I pray up to five more Rosaries this way. After the last Rosary I say the ending prayers. This way I feel like I have said continuous Rosaries throughout the day that are opened ended so I can add to them without feeling like I have to start all over.

What it does for me mentally is that it keeps my mind open to meditating all day on the Rosary mysteries instead of feeling like I have to finish a Rosary which in my own mind is the end of meditating on the life of Jesus in the mysteries. It really keeps me thinking about Him all day long.

Fourth Rosary Promise
The rosary will make virtue and good works flourish, and will obtain for souls the most abundant divine mercies. It will draw the hearts of men from the love of the world and its vanities, and will lift them to the desire of eternal things. Oh, that souls would sanctify themselves by this means.
