Number of decades?

by Mary Jo
(Cape Cod, Ma.)

I have found a 3 decade rosary in my mothers things. Small, as if for a child.

I had thought that 5 decades are the standard. Help!

Blessed Sacrament Beads
by: The Rosary Team

Perhaps it is a chaplet that is called Blessed Sacrament Beads.

There would be thirty-three beads symbolic of the thirty-three years Our Lord spent on earth.

Chaplets are not the same as the Rosary, but are prayed using the same method of keeping track of prayers as the Rosary with a set of beads.

If you ever come across a set of beads similar to a rosary check the medal. That is the biggest clue that will help you figure out what chaplet is prayed using that particular set of beads.

It is a Blessed Sacrament chaplet if the medal has an image of the Blessed Sacrament.

You pray the chaplet of the Blessed Sacrament in this manner...

On the medal pray a spiritual communion as follows: As I cannot now receive Thee, my Jesus, in Holy Communion, come, spiritually into my heart, and make it Thine own forever.

On each bead say: Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament, have mercy on us!

Hope this helps and thanks for your question.

God bless and Mary keep,
The Rosary Team

Fourth Rosary Promise
The rosary will make virtue and good works flourish, and will obtain for souls the most abundant divine mercies. It will draw the hearts of men from the love of the world and its vanities, and will lift them to the desire of eternal things. Oh, that souls would sanctify themselves by this means.
