The Rosary Is A Tool
by: Anonymous

Your question is interesting. We first must remember that a rosary is a tool in which we use, not a type of charm or amulet. The fact that there are star shaped "beads" does not matter, it is the intention of the user that is most important, and the prayers that are said that matter. Our Lady knows both your intentions and that a Rosary should be personal which aids in offering our prayers with conscience delight and a sincere heart. Young people are prone to want to be unique, which is fine as long as they do not alter the prayers or view the rosary as a fashion ornament of some kind.

Personally, I sometimes use a single decade rosary (the Irish penal rosary) as it is very easy to carry on the belt. One must remember we are very privileged to be able to just even pray the rosary and display it publicly on our person, as was not the case in some darker periods of history. Just because there are only 10 Ave Maria beads on the Irish penal rosary instead 50 does not make the rosary prayers said on them any less valid. Having an unusual rosary visible will often generate questions, even from Catholics, and from there one can educate another on the history of the rosary and how we got the present form we have today. It beats carrying around 150 loose pebbles! Always be prepared to answer questions about the Holy Rosary. This promotional attitude is one that pleases Our Lady greatly and obtains for us many graces.

Fourth Rosary Promise
The rosary will make virtue and good works flourish, and will obtain for souls the most abundant divine mercies. It will draw the hearts of men from the love of the world and its vanities, and will lift them to the desire of eternal things. Oh, that souls would sanctify themselves by this means.
